An easy enough mistake to make

Today's hike is a round trip starting from our lodgings in Bezau. Following lunch purchases in town 
we walk to the cable car

and then ascend rapidly to the top of the mountain-this is my kind of hike so far. There are are numerous idiots up here whose idea of good fun is to toss themselves off the top mountains while attached to colourful sheets.

After watching this particular form of insanity we descend over rough and muddy tracks interspersed with steep ascents.







Lunch is enjoyed sitting on a log and then more descending.






Just when we thought it was safe we are faced with a monstrous climb-

a shocking stress test for the elder statesman of the group(he passed with flying colours). Then a long descent to the bottom of the valley




to try to find our bus stop for the return journey to Bezau; this proves to be a challenge so we are forced to flag down the bus mid-route. The journey back seems very brief as I notice a sign saying Bizau, so I hurry everybody out of the bus; for some reason the surroundings appear alien; would you believe there is a town of Bizau in the same area as the town Bezau?
Fortunately it is a mere 4Km walk toBezau. I get the dyslexia award as we arrive bedraggled into Bezau(via Bizau)!

Having found ourselves sedentary for too long and not wishing to lose our incredible svelte body shapes we strap on our walking boots once again and head towards the Devil's Punchbowl(DP). for a morning's perambulation. Parking is an issue in the Uk, it is either non-existent or costs 10 pounds an hour(+VAT); the latter proves to be the case at the National Front carpark at the DP. Anyway the walk turns out to be a jolly affair with some rather wonderful views of the Surrey countryside. We join Claire and Suzannah Mary for lunch and afternoon tea and then we are booked in for a tour of the Hogsback brewery-an enlightening visit with copious free samples of their fine brew. We meet the young folk for dinner at a local public house.

Arriving in the Old Dart

An early start and a tearful farewell to Louie and Helga.Smooth check-in and breakfast at Tulla. We have a 9 hour stopover in Singapore so after questioning the customs officer about the best chicken rice we make our way to Sing Ho and are not disappointed. We also visit the giant greenhouse at Gardens by the Bay. Following a drug induced sleep we arrive unscathed at Heathrow; finding the courtesy bus to Avis proved a challenge with obscure signage. We arrive safe and sound in Guildford at our Airbnb where we meet our scatterbrained hostess and then are reunited with the heavily pregnant Claire. We wander into Guildford and am pleasantly surprised that English ale is as delicious as ever; then an afternoon nap and out for dinner, with Claire and Eric, and more beer at the Onslow Arms.

An easier day-Bezau to Mellau

Following our usual substantial breakfast we are back on the trail again to our next destination, Mellau. I am lucky enough to have a look at the local version of puffing billy and then it is usual over hill and dale and even a section where we are expected to take off our boots and walk barefoot through a rural meadow-expectations do not always match with reality. We stop along the way for stunning views of the Arlberg and then a long descent into Mellau and our next lodging.
